The highlights

After entirely renovating their detached house a popular Somerset village 20 years ago, Beth and Kevin felt their home was in need of a refresh to accommodate the changing needs of their growing family.

The house

Set on the edge of a sought after village and in its own grounds, this smart Bath stone house has been steadily enhanced and refined over the years. With growing children and a passion for horses and all things outdoor, this family needed a base that was both practical and stylish.

“It’s hard to get a refurbishment exactly right first time, and needs change. We have two teenagers now, who like their own space.”

Beth

The brief

The refresh and extensive external landscaping incorporated the conversion of the attached double garage into a large family room. Beth was particularly keen to combine a more contemporary wood finish with the traditional cream travertine tiles and classic paint colours which flow throughout the kitchen, dining and hall spaces.

The kitchen’s cabinetry was remodelled in places and Beth wanted to add a contemporary twist with tiling.

“The team at Tile & Floor were very generous with samples and have exceptional knowledge.”

This classic home is smart, practical and elegant. The new family room provides a teenage haven with pretty Susie Watson fabrics, big screen and large Sofa.com duck egg blue corner sofa as well as plenty of toy, gaming and book storage. This sits over a contemporary engineered oak board laid in plank format with a tough laquer finish to protect it from wear and tear. See Variante Sumatra.

The original sitting room is now an adult only space and was also redecorated to make it a welcoming space of rich rusts and calming tonal blues. The large classic open plan kitchen with cream travertine tiles was re-painted in a carefully complementing combination of Farrow & Ball colours. A new iridescent cream metro tile splashback with taupe grout by Fugabella bounces light into darker corners and contrasts beautifully against a showpiece black electric Aga. See Seaton Salt . The refresh has breathed new life and functionality into this already lovely home.

I have always experienced helpful service from Tile & Floor, and their Design Centre is very well stocked.

We love the calm of this country home. The mix of oak, stone and textured furnishings give it a cosy but elegant feel. We always enjoy working with Beth.
